Marriage License

Marriage license are issued between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm Monday through Friday. The cost for a marriage license is $60.00. We accept check, cash, debit/credit or money order. The license can be used immediately upon issuance and is valid for 60 days. You may obtain your license in any county in North Carolina and be married anywhere within the state of North Carolina. The original license must be returned back to the county where it was issued.

Both parties must be present when applying for the marriage license. There is no waiting period to obtain a license. There is no premarital physical required.

ALL APPLICANTS MUST PROVIDE A SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER
Either the original card or income tax return with the social security number. If an individual has never been issued a social security number then they must sign an affidavit attesting to this fact. This form is available in the Register of Deeds office.

Applicants 18 years of age or older
Must provide one of following forms of identification:
-Valid driver’s license or picture ID issued by the DMV
-Valid passport
-Military ID

Applicants 16-17 years of age
Must have parental consent and certified copy of their birth certificate in addition to all the above requirements.

Applicants 15 years of age
Must present certified court order authorizing marriage from district court judge.

Divorced applicants
Must provide the original or certified copy of the divorce judgement. There is no waiting period between the divorce and applying for a new marriage license.
